Learn how an ACL LCL Tear is Repaired

An ACL LCL tear is an injury that involves 2 important ligaments of the knee: the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and lateral collateral ligament (LCL). These strong bands of tissue work together to help keep the knee stable and moving properly. When a combined ACL LCL tear occurs, one may feel or hear a “pop,” followed by swelling, pain, and joint instability. The treatment plan for a combined ACL tear and LCL injury will often call for both ligaments to be surgically treated at the same time.
