@Sophie-td8nrمنذ 4 سنوات Defining Sex Offenders - Most people would define a sex offender in simplified but severe terms; and most are unaware that such diverse and sometimes innocent id="hidden1" class="buttons"> acts are treated so harshly.
    • The “sex offender” label applies to:
    • violent rape
    • child molestation
    • but equally to:
    • public urination
    • sexting
    • mooning
    • streaking
    • downloading suggestive or abusive images of those purported to be under the legal age
    • sex with underage partner – Romeo & Juliet scenarios where one of the partners aged into an illegal situation.
    • those manipulated by law enforcement personnel in entrapment-like bait-and-switch sting operations
    • False accusations of rape or abuse
    • Those who were lied to by underage female partners (note: this is not a legal defense in most states)

@adamtorres833منذ 3 سنوات Meanwhile, someone could have 5 dui's, and accidents, or kill someone, get out of prison, and don't have to register on anything, however, law id="hidden2" class="buttons"> enforcement can spy on someone's ip address, find underage pictures and videos on their computers, they haven't actually touched anyone, or get caught peeing outside, and they have to be labeled a danger to the community, and register on a sex offender registry for life, but all other violent crimes get a second chance at society. No one sees a problem with that? ....وسعت 45

@slaakattakقبل 8 أشهر That list is dangerous. Too many teens who had sex with each other shouldnt be classified in the same category as a serial rapist who beats and rapes victims. 27

@gewgulkansuhckitt9086منذ 4 سنوات So is the loophole that anyone is ever able to get off the sex offender registry? Because I could imagine if somewhere down the line you were proved innocent id="hidden4" class="buttons"> or something along those lines, it would be appropriate to be removed.
Or is the loophole the manner in which this particular guy finagled the law?
I don't think this story makes the details clear enough. Obviously this particular example is really, really bad. But I don't think the lawmakers were complete idiots who set out to allow any sex offender who so desired to get their names off the registry - especially not offenders like this guy. What did they actually intend for this law to pertain to?
If the video gave us the information we needed then we could decide that they should (A) completely abolish the law or (B) fix the law so it works as intended.

@SeanHendyقبل 7 أشهر I'm not sure that calling it a 'loophole' is an accurate description. The issue appears to be that the terms of the registry requirements, id="hidden6" class="buttons"> for an attempted offence, are less than for being convicted of the full offence. AS a comparison, under UK law, there is law (the criminal attempts act) which basically provides that they will be tried for the full offence, with the potential sentences the full offence brings, i.e. no reduction, just because they didn't complete the criminal act.
However, this report is built on the presumption that everyone should be on the register for life, which in itself is an issue of contention.
In this particular case, given the age of the perpetrator at the time, and the age of the victim at the time, you would grade this in a higher category. The mistake in the system is that he should have been offered any deal for pleading to a lesser offence of 'attempted', but it's difficult to be specific without knowing the full details of the case and exactly what evidence was available.
The responsibility lies squarely with the prosecutors in doing the deal they did.
IF the person did indeed commit r4pe of someone underage, I find it very strange that this could be reduced to an 'attempted' offence. You would usually expect any reduction to be to s3xual assault, i.e. a complete offence, not an attempted offence. But then that's the American judicial system for you. It often doesn't make sense.

@kurochi4768منذ 4 سنوات You know what, I'm going to say it. I'm happy as hell for this guy. He has made a heinous act in his past, but he has tread onward from it and id="hidden10" class="buttons"> still reached success even with such an unfair obstacle.
He is moving on with his life, while the woman is continuing to be a victim. My mother was molested as a child, and she uses it as an excuse for abandoning me and my siblings. I've been abused and I know the effects it had on me, but I do not call myself a victim.
I show deep respect for this guy for fighting the system.

Either someone id="hidden16" class="buttons"> is a danger to society and does time in prison for his/her crimes, or the sentence was served, and then all that remains is a criminal record. No other crimes, including violent offenses, are punished with a registry entry, so what is going on with this country that the judiciary is so obsessed with sex? ....وسعت 4

@jamishendrixمنذ 3 سنوات Im all about victims rights. But the sex offender registry does not protect the public from them committing a crime. The offender has that power. Think id="hidden21" class="buttons"> about it. You have a choice in anything you do.if your hungry you can go by food with money if your poor you can go steal it.same goes for any crime. Its the persons choice. The sex offender registry was designed in collaboration with law enforcement an the fbi to trade infromation bout sex offenders. It does not protect the people it does not track offenders only give information on where they live an a bunch of details bout their crime an physical appreance. If an offe der like the ones on parole in California who wear ankle monitors then yes they are tracked 24/7. For the ones who arent they have the choice to offend if they desire to. Its a shame in my opinion its doesnt protect my kids or anyone. If they decide not to live where they live then they can until they are caught an bought to court.but it doesnt stop them from commiting crimes sexual or otherwise. I feel for the victim in this news cast but having him on or off the registry doesnt provide any sense of protection toanyo e ....وسعت 5

@chetopuffsمنذ 5 سنوات The DA’s office want to pass the buck, big surprise!!!
Maybe if they had done their job we wouldn’t have this problem. Maybe if the DA stopped sucking on the tit of the all mighty “plea deal” and actual pursued the crime he was charged with, he wouldn’t be eligible to have his name removed from the list in the first place.
I have a friend; when she was in her 20’s she got arrested for shagging her boyfriend in a public park late at night. No children present. She is now a “sex criminal”, but her name doesn’t deserve to be on the same list as this guy. It doesn’t deserve to be on any list.
What the hell do you think kids do at “make out point”? Just make out? Get real.
Is the registry part of a punishment? Or is it a tool intended to help the public stay safe?
Sex offenders have lowest rate of recidivism of all criminal types. We have to ask ourselves; if we are trying to correct the offender’s behaviour or are we trying to punish them, for life?
Are they likely to offend again? If the answer is a, “No”, then we need to give people a way off the registry.
For if we do not give people a path to a full rehabilitation, a path to become full productive member of society, why would they ever attempt the journey?
    For what it’s worth:
Punitive action categorically cannot prevent crime. As it can only be applied to criminals after of the crime has been committed.
Moreover; you can’t teach empathy with a stick.
