I've been a lover of nature and the outdoors for a long time, so this wasn't the first time that I've seen Killdeer eggs, or a Killdeer doing a broken wing display. It is however the first time that I've ever seen a Killdeer actually sitting on it's nest. It was just one of those lucky accidents, but I'm happy that I had my camera and was able to gets some video of it. It's always amazed me that they are able to lay eggs on the ground and then be able to raise their babies without predators getting them most of the time. The broken wing display is something that they do to try to lure you away from their nests. The first time you see it, it's hard not to think that there is something "wrong" with the bird. @gwynnfarrell1856منذ 4 سنوات When I lived out by the foothills near Boise, Idaho, there were Kildeer that used the broken wing method to protect their nests. I felt honored when a id="hidden1" class="buttons"> pair decided to nest in a bed that I'd covered in bark mulch in a side yard. We made sure to avoid the area and were treated to the sight of tiny baby Kildeer! ....وسعت 3

@greenthumbelina7331منذ 4 سنوات Thank you, Jim, for sharing this video! I love how these unique birds blend in so well with their surroundings. Several years ago, while I was out for id="hidden2" class="buttons"> a walk, I spotted a Killdeer on a nest and then observed the broken wing display, as it tried to lead me away from its nest. As my mom would say, it's all part of the Master's plan, don't mess with it, just enjoy it. I know that I got my love of nature from my parents. ~Margie ....وسعت 1

@michaelsimko7694منذ 4 سنوات I live in a shoreline city in the Northeast that has a large shoreline park where Killdeer are common. There's a number of nesting sites that are used id="hidden3" class="buttons"> every year. One certain site is near a bus terminal where there's a river. Every spring when I start hearing Killdeer calls coming from that area during the evening and after dark, I know warmer weather is coming and the fishing action is picking up.
Calls during the early morning twilight are almost like an alarm going off telling the gulls and other birds to get up.
Some might find Killdeer to be annoying due to how noisy they can be, but I enjoy their calls and find their personality silly, cute, adorable, and charming.

@BobMelsimpleliving.منذ 4 سنوات Good morning Jim. Years ago one laid some eggs on the side of our gravel drive way. It didn't work out and now I haven't see one in several years id="hidden6" class="buttons"> around here. I have noticed in the last 15 years or so that a lot of our wild life has changed around here. Sadly not for the better. Best wishes Bob. ....وسعت 1
