Google Pixel 3a XL vs Pixel 3XL | Premium versus mid-range

Comparing Google's new Pixel 3a XL versus the original Pixel 3 XL, to see what's been chopped to reach that affordable asking price. Here's how the camera tech, specs, performance, battery tech and other bits all stack up. The Pixel 3XL boasted one of the best smartphone cameras of 2019, and thankfully this has been passed down to the Pixel 3a XL. Despite the lack of Visual Core on this mid-range phone, photo and video quality is comparable to the original. In fact, the Pixel 3a XL improves on the 3 XL for battery life, thanks to the larger 3700mAh cell. And you get the same slick vanilla Android experience, including full features and 3 years of update support. However, the new Google phone sports a polycarbonate finish, which means no wireless charging either. The OLED screen is less sharp and speed takes a hit, as the Pixel 3a XL uses the mid-range Snapdragon 670 chipset instead. All the same, that £469 UK asking price is extremely enticing, given the camera smarts on offer.
